Her Loss
by Ru
(written 2005)
the grief hovers in the back of her throat,
threatening to consume,
threatening to pour forth,
threatening to swallow her whole.
the water pools around her feet,
giving life from death.
irony springing forth,
from the ruin.
she sits staring, uncertain,
soaked and waiting,
afraid to move,
afraid to speak,
trapped in her thoughts,
trapped in her past.
the grief hovers in the back of her throat,
she cannot succumb to it.
it tempts her and drains her,
her strength flowing out,
insuppressible, and relentless,
like blood flowing freely from her severed heart.
pooling around her feet,
she stares,
the weight of wisdom,
threatening to topple her.
the grief hovers in the back of her throat,
time marches on,
blind and careless,
inconsiderate and uninterested.
the grief hovers in the back of her throat.
